Ubuntu, the most popular Desktop Linux OS is now offering a Android based solution for Multi-core processor phones to convert the phones to desktop. Now multi-core Android phones can be PCs too. So users get the Android they know on the move, but when they connect their phone to a monitor, mouse and keyboard, it becomes a PC. With MNP all set to release country wide tomorrow, there are something which you need to know. There aren't much fineprints which would affect the user in the MNP race, but its better we know what we are talking about. 1. You can port your number only 3 times in your lifetime. I repeat, three times, and thats it! You are fixed back to your operator. 2. You have to have been atleast 90 days with an operator before you can port your number to the next operator. 3. Once you request for a change of operator, your current operator has 48 hours to make you stay back. If you refuse the offer, you will be shifted to the new operator after the 48 hours are over. 4. You can shift from CDMA to GSM, GSM to CDMA, CDMA to CDMA, and GSM to GSM. You cannot shift your broadband number yet. 5. Google Maps 5 for Android comes with two features that make Google's mapping software a lot more useful. Google now uses vector graphics instead of map tiles and it caches some of your most frequently used maps so that they are available offline. Vector-based maps allowed Google to add a lot of cool gestures:   Tilting: Drag down with two fingers to tilt the map. Tilt while zoomed in on one of the 100+ cities around the world with 3D buildings to see a skyline spring to life. Rotating: Twist with two fingers to rotate the map. After tilting to see 3D buildings, rotate around them to gain a new perspective from any direction. Smooth zooming: Slide two fingers together or apart, and see the map and labels continuously scale to any zoom level, stopping when your fingers stop. It's a mobile platform... Froyo (following Google's adorable alphabetized dessert naming convention) is the latest iteration of Android, Google's mobile operating system. Simple enough! If you bought an Android phone recently, Froyo's what it will eventually be running.   ...with a slightly different look... Aside from the nice touch of being greeted by an Android icon at start-up, Froyo users can also expect a new homescreen widget. There are some other minor aesthetic changes, and transitions and animations seem a bit smoother, but the user experience isn't all that different from using 2.1 on a Nexus One.   ...that supports USB tethering and acts as a portable hotspot... Videocon has just launched an Android 2.1-based full-touch phone, the Zeus, and further extended its portfolio, by introducing four other phones as well. Providing full access to the Android Market, the Videocon Zeus (V7500) also comes with a whole bunch of preloaded applications as well as an 8GB microSD card, all at a rather attractive price of Rs. 12,900. At that price, you can't help but compare it to the LG Optimus GT540, another Android full-touch phone that was released just over a month ago, priced at Rs. 12,990. The GT540 currently however is based on Android 1.6, though it will support an upgrade to Android 2.1. The Zeus ships with 2.1, and is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm processor. As Blackberry Storm releases at Vodafone, lets check out what it has in store. Many call this an iPhone killer. May be just because it has a full touch screen, or may be because it has email, orkut, and what not... What not...just reminds me.. it doesn't have WiFi. May be to keep the phone under the $200 tag, they have not considered WiFi or may be because they want Vodafone to get a good revenue with their data plans. RIM's a little late to the touchscreen party, but comes bearing goodies. The BlackBerry Storm is a beast of a phone in more ways than one. Fronted by a meaty, high-resolution touchscreen with an innovative clicking mechanism, the phone is easily the prettiest by RIM to date. Building on the success of the Nokia E71, the company's flagship messaging device, the Nokia E63 brings the QWERTY keyboard form factor to a broader audience at a great price.   The other day, I had an opportunity to look at what these Korean mobiles can offer. Was roaming around in Spencer Plaza (Chennai, India), and I could spot 6 - 8 shops selling these low-on-cost high-on-feature mobiles with Nil warranty. The shop keeper showed me a few other models which had TV and all. But the outer looks, HIC killed me. The first look at the box in the shelf, you just won't believe it a copy, even if that guy tells you it is. Such well made box and packing. He opened and showed me the phone. HTC looks just the same..thats what I would like to phrase it as. Switched on the phone, HIC logo just like HTC. The fonts are a bit hazy, wouldn't say they are too clear. But these korean / chinese phone have a lot of problem with rendering english fonts. I really don't understand why. This phone has bluetooth, no WIFI and all, can carry 2 sim cards and also has a touch interface. Obviously you can't ask for Windows Mobile OS and TouchFlo technology when you are ...
