We still have people going into drains and bringing up the muck. We have technology for everything under the sun, then why are we subjecting our fellow human beings in this deplorable manner? Is it because they are still there? Coz they still have to eat to remain alive?
Touched by thoughts
that slash and scar,
Humiliation touched
every nerve, every cell,
Eyes cry tearless cries
mouths mouth muted moans,
Who has the time to linger
and ask if it hurts at all?
The glance, the smirk, the ignore,
kerchief on upturned noses.
A glance is enough
to reboot afresh,
A flurry of thoughts
that race to that scar,
To nibble and gnaw
till the slash rebleeds,
A thousand more beads
of inhuman pain.
Inherited pain
and the cruel name
In their new muster
and their black drain.
Clothed in lion
and in layers of muck
Hyena of the urbanscape
down black prison of poison.
Breathing in the fumes
that still burp contently
From yesterday’s dinner
at the Barbeque Nation.
