There is nothing great in making a sequel to a blockbuster film, the secret is how to maintain the consistency. Hari and Surya joined hands in 2010 to make "Singam" which came as a boost to Surya's career. After that hit, Surya has not had a single blockbuster in the next three years and he assumed that his association with Hari in another film might give a boost to his career. Hari known to make masala films has once again tried his hand with a tested formula but the end result though is disappointment.
Duraisingam (Surya) comes back from Chennai to Tuticorin to unearth an international smuggling racket. His nemesis being Bhai (Mukesh Rishi) and Thangaraj (Rahman). Duraisingam tracks the turn of events being an undercover cop, forced to don uniform officially, he figures out that there is another villain in the form of Dany (Dany Sapani, a Hollywood import).
What does Duraisingam does to control the bad guys and in the process what does he lose in life is all about in the film which has a running time of 165 minutes. The main spoiler in the film is that Director Hari seems to be carried away with Surya's star status that he forgot to have a credible and a new story line compared to its predecessor. The screenplay moves at a snail pace thereby increasing the agony further.
Anushka, Nasser, Radha Ravi and Vivek retain their roles from "Singam 1" while Santhanam happens to be a new addition to the cast included for the comedy track where he and vivek have failed miserably. Hansika Motwani comes in a cameo as a class XII student with an one sided love towards Surya.
Anushka seems to have increased her glamour quotient in the songs. Anjali who after a stellar performance in "Angadi Theru" has thrown caution out of the window in an item number which can be best described as an almost vulgar number. Hansika Motwani has no scope to perform though her portrayal of being a school student seems convincing.
Devi Sri Prasad's music is average. Editing is ordinary and overall a mediocre attempt from the entire team.
"Singam 2" is nothing but spiceless masala.
