Mutual Fund SIP: for Short term or Long term?

It may look very strange when everyone is advocating Mutual Fund Sip for long term, what is the necessity for this debate on ‘Is Mutual Fund SIP for Short term or long term?’. Theoretically doing a Mutual fund SIP for long term will work for investors. But for practical reasons we need to commit a Mutual Fund SIP for short term. That is we need to break that long term into many 6 months or 1 year periods and commit your Mutual Fund SIP for first 6 month or 1 year. Then at the end of 6 month or 1 year renew your SIP for another 6 month or 1 year. You need to renew like this till you complete your predetermined long term period. You may think it is an unnecessary paperwork and waste of time. But you will be completely convinced when you have finished reading this article. Contribution towards Mutual Fund SIP Changes: How much you are contributing towards Mutual Fund SIP changes over a period of time.  At the beginning of a career a person will be able to commit Mutual Fund SIP for small...

Singham

Director            Rohit Shetty Cast                  Ajay Devgn, Prakash Raj, Kajal Agarwal, Sonali Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar, Ashok Saraf, Sonali Kulkarni, Govind Namdeo, Ashok Samarth Year                 2011 Genre               Action Now here is a case of a movie being as good (or should I say as bad) as a trailer.   Such a welcome relief for the avid movie watcher like me which cuts the crap and the red tape and shows what the entire movie is about in just the trailer.   I wish there were more such movies which are made.   The viewer would know exactly what is in store for her / him.   A brilliant way to ensure that expectations match the final result and therefore the viewer doesn’t really le...

Know your brain’s age

http://www.freebrainagegames.com/ From the website I have been interested in Brain Science (esp in the area of cognition) ever since I left my Bio-technology degree in the 90's to pursue my interest in web technology. There have been so many exciting breakthroughs especially in the awareness of neuroplasticity. I have a real passion for the field as I grew up on a small farm in New Zealand I am a big believer in personal change. However I am not a neuroscientist - I am sure this site would look quite different if I was :-). And you should not take your brain age too seriously.

Deiva Thirumagal Movie Review

Its easy to attempt making a re-make of a hit film. But the attempt will be fruitful only when certain important aspects are taken into consideration. "Deiva Thirumagal" which happens to be a film based on "I am Sam" falls short of expectations on many counts. The glaring aspect is that though the movie was first re-made in Hindi as "Main Aisa hi Hoon" with Ajay Devgan in the lead, the Tamil version lacks the required impetus to strike a chord with the audience. Krishna (Vikram) is an autistic individual with an IQ of a six-year old. irony would have it that his wife Banu dies during giving birth to their daughter Nila. Nila (Baby Sara) grows up with proper care from her father and a helping hand from the neighbors. Nila joins school and there she meets Swetha (Amala Paul) her school correspondent. Swetha and Nila strike a good chord between them and things go on smoothly till Swetha finds out who Nila's father is. At this point of time, the world tur...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

Director            David Yates Cast                  Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson, Julie Walters, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith Year                 2011 Genre               Adventure To start on a humourous note, here is a letter that was doing the rounds yesterday.   It read Dear Mr. Harry Potter, If I had taken 8 movies to kill the villain in my movie, I would have give the money back Rajnikanth 8 movies and 10 years down the line after creating enough derangement amongst fans and generating euphoria like never been seen before amongst young & old alike and contributing new the English language through hilarious but useful spells such as Wingardium Lev...

Unusual Gifts

Sweets, crackers, gold coins, and jewels are the items which come to our mind when we think about Diwali gifts. Let me unbundle some unusual gift ideas for this Diwali here. Gift ideas for children: 1) Piggy bank: This may not be a great idea. But can be done in a different fashion. That is you gift a piggy bank to a child with 90 one rupee coins. Set a target for the child to make it to Rs.100 in a month. This motivates the child to save Rs.10 extra to make it Rs.100. Like wise you can set a target for a year. Also announce some bonus when the child achieves a particular target. Say when it reaches Rs.1000 give the child a bonus of Rs.100. Idea is not only to gift the piggy bank and to encourage and motivate to save. 2) Savings account for kids: Open a savings account for the gift. It gives a great feeling to the gift, when the kid gets a bank account in his/her own name. Whatever cash gifts, the kid gets for Diwali, Christmas, New Year, birthday and other special occasion can be depo...

How to Get out and Stay out of Debt?

In spite of steady, regular income there are so many individuals who live paycheque to paycheque, carry their credit card outstanding, and fail to save anything for retirement. If you are one of them, now is the right time to take action to come out of debt and stay out of debt. It is not only possible; it is unbelievably achievable. List down all your debts You need to take stock of all your loans. It could be credit card due, personal loan, car loan, housing loan, education loan, loan from FD, loan from insurance policies, loan from your employer, hand loan and so on. For each and every loan you need to note down how much you owe, the present interest rate, EMI, Number of months to be paid. Negotiate for lower interest rates If you could negotiate the interest rate and bring it down then you can come out of debt faster. Most of the credit card companies come forward for negotiation if you really show interest in repaying. They need not run after you to collect the debt. It will reduc...

Larry Crowne

Director            Tom Hanks Cast                  Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Rami Malek, Wilmer Valderrama, Maria Canals-Barrera, George Takei, Bryan Cranston, Year                 2011 Genre               RomCom A good solid Romantic Comedy after quite a while is what one would feel after watching Larry Crowne – released last weekend.   Not only does Larry Crowne give us an opportunity to watch 2 of the best actors of our time together on screen once again (Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts share screen space after Charlie Wilson’s War) but also treats us to some really acidic and extremely enjoyable humour with just that little bit of romance thrown in as garnish.   Tom Hanks takes his position be...

Deadly irrational investment Behaviours

Are Investors Emotional Or Rational In Their Investment Decisions? Let’s start having a look: The complexity of investment decisions has always made me feel whether investors made objective and rational decisions or were they swayed by their momentary emotions and psychology. The study of behavioral finance or how emotions and psychology influenced the way investors invested made me aptly think, “We can take the horse to the water, but can never force it to drink.” Even investment advisors can guide, but can never rule over investor’s emotions, and such emotions influenced the wrong choices or right choices they made, as also other investors decisions for wealth creation. A bird’s eye view at common irrational investment behaviours: Follow The Pied Piper: It is quite right, these investors believe it is better to follow what others do, and they do not use their own discretion or rationality and just follow what others do and may be just pushed into the river as the rats with Pied Piper...
