Two groups of children locking horns with each other and at the same time two old men behind these two groups. In comes a love story which unites them all and the enemity is forgotten in the end for a happy ending. Does the above mentioned storyline seem all too familiar? Yes, it is nothing new but a slight change made to the hit film "Pasanga". The only difference between "Pasanga" and "Rettaisuzhi" is that the former was a fresh idea while the latter is a copy which fails to even qualify to be compared.
The team that made "Rettaisuzhi" can boast of big names like K Balachander, Bharatirajaa, Director Shankar, Karthik Raja etc but they were no match when compared to the small names that made an interesting film in "Pasanga". Ramasamy (Balachander) and Singaravelan (Bharatirajaa) lock horns 40 years ago due to an election result. The enemity continues and ardently followed by the tiny tots in the village.
Suseela (Anjali) a relative of Singaravelan is the school teacher in the village and her love interest happens to be Moorthy (Debutant Ari) who happens to be brought-up by Ramasamy. The fighting tots in the village forget their enemity to join the lovers and they plan to bring the two old men together. There is enough scope for twists and entertainment in a story like this but director Thamira has failed to understand the plot and it seems that he has been backing the acting of the two legends of tamil cinema to sail through in the movie.
The disappointment is how did Director Shankar accept to produce this movie? Probably, he might have been busy with "Endhiran" which would have made him give the nod without even listening to the story. In terms of acting Balachander fails squarely whereas Bharatirajaa has proven his class. Anjali after "Angadi Theru" does not have the requisite scope for acting while Debutant Ari looks like an one-film actor. Music by Karthik Raja is a disappointment but nothing as bad when compared to the man at the helm Thamira.
Rettaisuzhi - a movie to be forgotten at the earliest.
