STRAWBERRY ICE LOLLIES

STRAWBERRY ICE LOLLIES Ice lolly is basically fruit juice converted to flavored ice. I realized that it’s a good way to make children have fruits. Fruits can be included in your kid’s diet by presenting it in a fun and creative way. We have been buying ice lollies from supermarkets since ages but imagine making them at home. Fresh, pure, unadulterated and it definitely tastes better. It’s simple to make at home, you just need fresh fruits (here I have used strawberries), Ice lolly moulds and a deep freezer that’s it…so…simple. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare and few hours to freeze. So plan early if you want to present this dessert to guests or to your kids. Ingredients Strawberries – 500g Water -100ml Castor Sugar – 100g Method De-stem and wash the strawberries and chop the strawberries into pieces. Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until it becomes one uniform mixture. Pour the mixture into the ice lolly moulds and freeze until solid. You can avoid sugar from t...

Rettaisuzhi Movie Review

Two groups of children locking horns with each other and at the same time two old men behind these two groups. In comes a love story which unites them all and the enemity is forgotten in the end for a happy ending. Does the above mentioned storyline seem all too familiar? Yes, it is nothing new but a slight change made to the hit film "Pasanga". The only difference between "Pasanga" and "Rettaisuzhi" is that the former was a fresh idea while the latter is a copy which fails to even qualify to be compared. The team that made "Rettaisuzhi" can boast of big names like K Balachander, Bharatirajaa, Director Shankar, Karthik Raja etc but they were no match when compared to the small names that made an interesting film in "Pasanga". Ramasamy (Balachander) and Singaravelan (Bharatirajaa) lock horns 40 years ago due to an election result. The enemity continues and ardently followed by the tiny tots in the village. Suseela (Anjali) a relative of ...

Sun as you have never seen before - NASA Picture

Forget Iceland's volcano. If you want to see a really big eruption, you need to head to the Sun. This astonishing image - captured by a new Nasa space telescope - shows a ferocious solar flare looping out the Sun with the power of 100 hydrogen bombs. The ring of fire, heated to tens of millions of degrees, stretches out tens of thousands of miles  - and is so big it could contain more than 100 Earths. It is just one of the spectacular images from a new satellite which it says could give fresh insight into how the Sun works. The pictures were taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which is the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the Sun. Some of the images show never-before-seen detail of material streaming outward and away from sunspots. Others show extreme close-ups of activity on the Sun’s surface. 'These amazing images, which show our dynamic sun in a new level of detail, are only the beginning of SDO's contribution to our understanding of t...

10 Simple Google Search Tricks

I’m always amazed that more people don’t know the little tricks you can use to get more out of a simple Google search. Here are 10 of my favorites. 1. Use the “site:” operator to limit searches to a particular site. I use this one all the time, and it’s particularly handy because many site’s built-in search tools don’t return the results you’re looking for (and some sites don’t even have a search feature). If I’m looking for WWD posts about GTD, for example, I could try this search: GTD site: webworkerdaily.com . 2. Use Google as a spelling aid. As Rob Hacker — the WWD reader I profiled last week — pointed out, entering a word into Google is a quick way to see if you have the right spelling. If it’s incorrect, Google will suggest the correct spelling instead. Additionally, if you want to get a definition of a word, you can use the “define:” operator to return definitions from various dictionaries (for example, define: parasympathetic). 3. Use Google as a calculator. ...

Watch Out for These Criminal Tricks

(1) Today I passed by a building which has an ATM machine. There was an old man looking at me. Suddenly, he called me. He said he did not know how to read, so he gave me his ATM card and asked me to help him withdraw money from the ATM machine. I answered ‘NO! If you need help, ask the security to help you.’ Then he said ‘never mind…’ and continued to find other people to help him… REMEMBER: ATM machines have CCTVs. If you help him he will later claim that you have robbed him or stolen his ATM card. Besides, his ATM card could be a stolen one. So please be careful of these tactics. (2) Suddenly your house lights go off. From your window you find that your neighbours still have their lights. So you go out of your house to check the Meter Box. But once you open the door, a knife will be pointing at you and preventing you from closing it. This is when you will be robbed and injured. REMEMBER: Even though your electricity suddenly goes off, DO NOT opens your door immediately. Look ...

Save Fuel - Driving Tips

Do not use the clutch too much. Switch the vehicle off at red light stops. Drive in gear corresponding to the speed. Get your vehicle serviced regularly. A poorly tuned engine can increase fuel consumption by up to 50% Driving at 90 kilometers an hour rather than 100 can reduce fuel consumption by 10% Under inflated tires can increase fuel consumption by 5% A loaded roof rack will increase fuel consumption by as much as 5% in highway driving. Even an empty roof rack can increase consumption by 1%. If the carrier is not attached to the vehicle, remove it when not in use. Avoid "Jack Rabbit"(fast acceleration of a motor vehicle from a stationary position) starts, not only do they increase fuel consumption, but are hard on your tires. Anticipating stops and avoiding abrupt stops will decrease fuel consumption and increase the life of your brakes and tires. Avoid unnecessary steering wheel movement since each sideward movement of the tire causes fuel-consumin...

How Joint Home Loan can help save more tax

A home loan often means all the more caution with money management and monthly budgets. It also means some smart thinking on the part of the individual who is taking up the home loan. Apart from things like evaluating fund flow, future job prospects, negotiating a pay hike, understanding loan eligibility, maintaining a good credit score and getting the best interest rate in the market, one also needs to consider the possibility of opting for a joint home loan. Who can opt for it? Banks insist that all co-owners of the home must be co-borrowers in a joint home loan. One could team up with parents or the spouse to be able to maximize the benefits of a joint home loan. Some banks allow brothers to take a joint home loan provided they opt to become co-owners of the property. The exceptions are sisters, friends or unmarried couples living together as most banks generally don't allow them to opt for a joint home loan. Key advantages of a joint home loan ...

Bringing back MF Hussain to India.

Something worth reading Bringing back MF Hussain to India. * This is a Letter to the Editor of The Hindu, from a practising Christian lady who was Professor in Stella Maris College, Chennai till recently; now settled at Baroda, regarding an Edit in The Hindu in favour of bringing back MF Hussain to India. Dear Ram, I have taken time to write this to you Ram-for the simple reason that we have known you for so many years- you and The Hindu bring back happy memories Please take what I am putting down as those that come from an agonized soul. You know that I do not mince words and what I have to say I will-I call a spade a spade-now it is too late for me to learn the tricks of being called a ‘secularist’ if that means a bias for, one, and a bias against, another. Hussain is now a citizen of Qatar-this has generated enough of heat and less of light. Qatar you know better than me is not a country which respects democracy or freedom of expression. Hussai...

LTA basics every employee has to know

After the hectic and tax-consuming year end March, its time to start planning for your next holiday. Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) is granted to employees to meet the cost of travel, while on leave from work, to any place in India. The amount of exemption depends upon the mode of travel. The exemption is allowed only towards the travel fare, and not for boarding and lodging. It is allowed twice in a block of four calendar years. The current block is 2010-13. So, for the period 2010-13 you can claim this exemption for any two occasions. What happens if I am not able to claim the LTA in a particular block? If in a particular block you are not able to claim LTA exemption for one or both journeys, then one journey can be carried forward and can be claimed in the first calendar year of the succeeding block. Thereafter, you can claim the remaining two journeys of that particular block of four years. Here is an example to clarify this nuance: Pankaj ...
