Major Disruptions in International Cabling system from Mumbai causing Internet from India to hit by 85%
As most you might be knowing that Internet Services from India are dependent upon a number of Submarine cables emanating from Mumbai, Chennai and Cochin. They are:
(a) Mumbai – SWM3, SMW4, FLAG
(b) Cochin – SAFE3
(c) Chennai – I to I
All the cables from Mumbai have gone down due to disasters under the sea (sabotage or anchor drop suspected). As a result Indian Internet services are running only on SAFE3 and I-to-I which possesses only 15% of the overall capacity from India (Broadband and DSL connections are running over Satellite connections only). This news appeared in TOI Saturday on the front page.
Due to this reason, the Internet speed to Servers outside India would be extremely bad at least till the end of this month (as predicted by the news). The interconnectivity between branches would not be affected because they are dependent upon Inland network within India. Local inbound and outbound mails will flow faster than international mails – but the traffic will not be completely disrupted.
