I started using Google mail way long when it started giving accounts only with invites. Yeah, they stopped this practice quite recently, but still, the reasons why many shifted to Gmail was for the space, but slowly Google made them stay with Gmail mainly because of simplicity, and not because they were coming out with features which are loaded like in other mail contenders.
But now again, google is back to the same line. Of course, a change of color to the page looks great, but was it really a necessity? Anyway, its a labs feature and you have a choice to keep it or leave it.
Google isn't too well on slow connections and we need to compromise and come back to HTML view. Now more the graphics, more the loading time, and less you get to see your mails. Yeah, this isn't applicable to people who are on cable or DSL, but, many still access Gmail from dial-up, or a congested DSL.
Official Gmail Blog: Spice up your inbox with colors and themes
I dont know if this would be an interesting feature in gmail. I admire gmail for its simplicity.
ReplyDeleteBut having this themes makes the gmail to get loading with a few seconds delay.
Previously I never used to see the sort of progress bar running to load my gmail. But these days I see the progress bar which means its getting loaded slowly. I see that adding such themes makes it even much slower.
I would prefer not to use these in my gmail account. I like the way how it is now.
